Hello

Wow this year has gone fast it seems just yesterday I was walking through the doors for the first time good memories, good memories.
Anyway today at Enrich we had passion time, my passion is probably writing. I've completed 2 stories on storybird. Now there some people who I'd like to thank. Firstly Darryn, Alana and Katie, thank you for making my first year at Enrich the best year I have ever had. secondly to everyone on Tuesday Enrich for being really nice to me on my first year and lastly to everyone who has encouraged me to keep on going and not to give up no matter how tough it gets

and for the last time this year.... Bye and Merry Christmas.

Hi everyone

Today at Enrich we went to Waihopai River to plant some trees such as flax and toi toi. After we got off the bus we went through a kind of maze. Once we got out we went over to a lady named Anastazia and she taught us how to plant a tree and within 5 mins 20 trees were planted! We did this because if the river ever floods then all the mud will be held  in the roots so it doesn't   go back in the river, making the water cleaner. Over the entire time we planted 250 trees!

Hi

Today at Enrich we had passion time and I decided to do science, with my friends Anna and Kate. We made Oobleck (corn flour slime). It's lots of fun (but very messy so be careful), its hard when you punch it and soft when you dig your fingers in it.
Question: Do you know why?

                   HOW TO MAKE OOBLECK
Hope it turns out like this

Ingredients:
Water
Food colouring
Corn flour
A bowl
A spoon

1. Add the food colouring to the water and stir.
2. Put 4-5 dessert spoons of corn flour in the bowl (add more if needed)
3. Add 1 quarter of the cup of water/food colouring into the bowl
4. Stir until gooey
6 Pour into a plastic bag - Make sure lid it is sealed tight.
7. Enjoy
                                      Helpful tips
If it turns solid, add a small drop of water.
To get it into the plastic bag, use a funnel.

Answer: When you punch it all the particles jam together making it solid but if you squeeze it lightly all the particles can move past your fingers.

 Hi

Today is last day of term... sad. But we still have today so...
Today at enrich we did P4C it was about "Is it OK to pollute?
lots of people said no I don't  think its OK to pollute, but you can't help it some times. Like you can't help it if work/school is an hours walk away from your house so you've got to take the car. Here are some things you can do: having quick showers to save water, not turning the lights on if its sunlight.  Then we had a talk about a story that we just read about the green thing, if you want to read it, its right down there:

Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the older woman, that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment.

The woman apologized and explained, "We didn't have
this green thing back in my earlier days."

The young clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations."

She was right -- our generation didn't have the green thing in its day.
Back then grocery stores bagged our groceries in brown paper bags, that we reused for numerous things, most memorable besides household garbage bags, was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our schoolbooks. This was to ensure that public property, (the books provided for our use by the school) was not defaced by our scribblings. Then we were able to personalize our books on the brown paper bags.

But too bad we didn't do the green thing back then.

Bye "sniff sniff"

Bye I'll be back next term

Hi.

Today at Enrich we had a look at the most polluted cities in the world. You would think it was LA wouldn't you, no it seems clean
next to these ones. LA's only got 25 micrograms (particles) per cubic meter of air.  Here are the top 10 air polluted cities in the world:
10 Lahore, Pakistan - 200 micrograms per cubic meter.
9 Kanpur, India - 209 micrograms per cubic meter.
8 Yasouj, Iran - 215 micrograms per cubic meter.
7 Gaborone, Botswana - 216 micrograms per cubic meter.
6 Peshawar, Pakistan - 219 micrograms per cubic meter.
5 Kermanshah, Iran - 229 micrograms per cubic meter.
4 Ludhiana, India - 251 micrograms per cubic meter.
3 Sanandaj, Iran - 254 micrograms per cubic meter.
2 Ulaan Baator, Mongolia - 279 micrograms per cubic meter.
And Drum roll please.........................................................................
1 Ahvaz, Iran - 372 micrograms per cubic meter!

Then we found out the cleanest city in the world is our very own Windy Wellington.  Can you guess which picture is Wellington?

Hi again.

Today at Enrich we did our environment projects. But we didn't  do the normal  environment projects  like murals.
But instead of that Darryn showed us a clip it was about
plastic in the water polluting it killing all the animals because

they were eating all the plastic. We also made a list of what it told us and what it made us wonder a lot of people asked "how long will it be 'til all of those animals just die out ?" If that does happen that will be the end of man kind. So we have to stop throwing plastic into water ways, because is said that now turtles/tortoises are the most  endangered species of animal in the world. Hi again (sorry about not doing posts for the last 2 weeks)

Today I did maths we did it on a man called Fibonacci. He discovered that if you go like 0+1=1 1+1+2 1+2=3 it looks complicated right its not. All you have to do is add the 2 most recent numbers together like 2+3=5 5+3=8 etc. Now  cows have nothing to do with maths do they? Well it turns out that they do! Well in Fibonacci's way they do. You see a cow can have babies when they are 2 but are pregnant for 1 year! So we did it with dots. We did it in different colors. Our main cow was called Daisy. For the first 2 years it was one baby 3rd year 2, 4th year 3, and so on we did until Daisy was 8. See if you can do it when you
get the hang of it try predicting the amount of cows she will have. We also did spiral shells. It's the same thing really. You start off with a grid then you do 2 small 1 square boxes then you do a 2 by 2 box etc.

Today at Enrich we did high interest stations,  I did science, we made elephant toothpaste. When it works  it looks really cool, it froths up and shoots up to the sky, it just goes on and on until it runs out of froth. We saw lots of videos of different people trying it. It looked so cool. We found that when we did it,  the bigger test tubes did bigger explosions. We put  food colouring in it to make it different colours. We had to choose partners, I chose Anna, we made a purple one.

HOW TO MAKE ELEPHANT TOOTHPASTE

1. Put 3 tbs of yeast into a measuring cup.
2. Put about 3 dessert spoons of water in the measuring cup.
3. Stir until the yeast has dissolved.
4.Get some of hydrogen peroxide and fill it up to half.
5. Put soap in any kind you like
6. Put in food colouring, any colouring you like. Only one drop.
7. Then put in the yeast mixture
Good luck!
By Mia
                                     WARNING
Do not let the mixture make contact with skin once the hydrogen peroxide is in the mixture

it bleaches on tables (any thing but skin) remember it is poison  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qtX6XgDeDY

Today at Enrich we were making murals we did them on a piece paper,  we drew and put photos on the paper. We did it to look like we wanted it to if we painted it on a wall. My group did it about all the kiwi icons and food. In the middle we had a pic of the water tower and around it we had Tim Shadbolt, tiki and koro, we also had lots of kiwi words like bro, Invercargill and Southland. I think the best bit was our slogan we did "we've got the paua" way better than our old one Invergiggles don't you  think.

First day back for term 3. Wow 2 terms gone - 2 more to go. Today we did
see he liked lizards
a high interest station. I chose to do a tessellations. It all started off with a square grid and some squiggly lines. The pictures and the lines all have to be the same otherwise it won't turn out like it's suppose to. We looked at some photos of tessellations by M C Escher - they we really good. He also did optical illusions. It also appeared that he liked lizards. When I did mine, it looked like a rooster. Some of the rules of a tessellation is the same pattern over and no overlapping.

Here is a link to M C Escher's webpage:

Hi again.
Today we did passion time its when people choose something,
that they really like and we get some time to do it.
I choose clay and made a mask. This is how you do it
1 wet the board
2 slap the clay on the board until the air bubbles go away
3 knead the clay until it is about in between 5 and 2 cm thick
4 put 1 to 2 pages of news paper under it
5 cut off the extra bits
6 make your design with a blunt blade (do not go right through the clay
7 to join on bits put light crosses on the surface of the clay and the back of the piece of clay
Bye, from Mia.

Hi again.

Today we went on a field trip to the museum to see the wearable

fire bird
                                             lady of the wood
arts display. It was so cool. When you first went in there was a little movie of the show. As soon as you walked in you could see  all of the costumes there were 3 rooms full. My favourite was the dark room, it had the 4 dress that glowed it was cool because anything white glowed so everyone that was wearing white glowed.

Chess

Hi
Today we did leaderboard chess. My friend Anna asked me for
a game - I won!! Then she asked to play speed chess. It's so hard! Speed chess is when you use a chess clock and you only have 5 minutes each to complete the game.  We tried to do it but the time made us nervous so we ended up laughing too much, so we didn't get to finish, but it was fun.

week 7

This week I chose to do the Maths talent development.  Our group is going to be learning to do canstruction! Canstruction is building something out of cans - like a smurf or a gumboot or a laptop.  We have got heaps of cool ideas for our project.  Oh and
what is put on the table to be cut but not eaten...  A pack of cards.

Hi Mia.
I was really impressed with your contributions to our discussion based around the negative aspects of being gifted on Tuesday.  You had some great ideas regarding strategies to deal with some of these issues.  You are making the most of your opportunities at Enrich by engaging in all the activities on offer.  Well done Mia.  Katie.

prospective

Hi for the last couple of weeks at enrich we have been doing prospective for the people who don't know its like what you think.
We have been doing things like should animals be kept in cages?
I don't think so all animals should have freedom.

SPANISH

For the last 3 weeks I have been learning spanish with Paola. She has told us lots of words like hola (hi) and Buenos dias
(good morning). Some things sound like they do in english,
for example tigre (tiger). Some words are the same as they are in
english like golf. It's lots of fun!

 From Mi

p.s hope to see you soon.
